After a few years focusing on collaborating with regional governments and large local corporations, Sareb’s goal now is to target smaller towns suffering from housing problems. In addition, it has sold some homes to the Basque Country Government and is currently holding conversations with other autonomous communities.
With this municipal offensive, the Company for the Management of Assets proceeding from the Bank Restructuring (Sareb) is aiming to increase its stock of transferred housing, which currently amounts to more than 2,400 units, to 10,000. “It is an ambitious objective, and will therefore require the full collaboration of city councils. With their help we can broaden the social footprint left by our activity, ”said Jaime Echegoyen, President of Sareb.
This new plan complements the one launched by the entity at the end of 2013, which was initially aimed at helping autonomous communities alleviate their social housing problems, and which was later extended to include large city councils.
