MAR Shopping Algarve Opens Its Doors to the Public

26 October 2017

The MAR Shopping Algarve, the most significant shopping centre in the region, is already in business.

Herman Gewert, MAR Shopping Algarve’s general director, stated that “it’s a great moment for our team. We’ve worked for a long time to build a mall that will make residents of the Algarve proud. Whether you’re talking about our retail stores or the options we have for leisure, today, we can safely say that the Algarve has one of the best shopping centres in Europe.” In a statement, Mr Gewert also promised that “we will be a stage for some of the best of the Algarve’s traditions and we will value the culture and values of this region that has so much more than just the sun and the beach. We want the people of the Algarve to see this as their home. ”

Ikea Centre’s latest investment in Portugal opened on October 26, in a space that stands out for its technology and design, which combine decorative elements of the region, areas with natural vegetation and the most extensive integrated outdoor leisure area in a Portuguese shopping mall. Energy and environmental sustainability solutions also include LED lighting, power consumption control software, photovoltaic solar panels, and more than 8,500 plants that we planted in areas of the interior and exterior of the commercial complex, designed to depend solely on natural precipitation. The MAR Shopping Algarve will also have specific kiosks equipped with interactive multi-touch technology and LCD screens for visitor information.

MAR Shopping Algarve opened with 110 stores, including the country’s largest Primark, Starbucks and the Lego Fan Factory and the country’s first laser-projected NOS movie theatres. The shopping centre is part of a larger retail area that is made up of an 82,000-square foot shopping complex that includes an Ikea store and the Designer Outlet, resulting from a total investment of 200 million euros.
