Production in Construction Grew by 4% in August

The Production in Construction Index registered a year-on-year increase of 4% in August, slightly higher than reported in July (3.9%). The data was released on Wednesday, October 10, by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

“This period [August] confirmed the trend seen in the previous month for the sectors under analysis, with the Building Construction Index registering an acceleration of 0.6% to 4.7% in August (growth of 4.1% and 3.7%, respectively, in July in June), while Civil Engineering slowed to 3%, compared with variations of 3.6% and 4.3% in the previous two months,” the INE’s report concluded.

The employment index registered a year-on-year growth of 2.7% (+2.8% in July). Compared with the previous month, the employment index decreased by 0.1%, holding steady compared to August 2017.

The rate of effective remuneration increased by 3.5% y-o-y (5.3% in July). Compared to July, the remuneration index decreased by 12.7% (a change of -11.1% in August 2017).
