Porta 65 Jovem Project’s Budget Increased to €18M

20 November 2017

The budget for the Porta 65 Jovem program is expected to be increased to 18 million euros in the State Budget for next year, according to proposals presented at the end of last week by the PS, PSD and CDS-PP political parties.

According to the DV, the PS’ proposal provides for “the transfer of a sum up to the limit of €18 million entered in Chapter 60 of the Directorate General of the Treasury and Finance for the IHRU [Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation] to be directed to the Program Porta 65 – Rent for Youth.” Also, the PSD and CDS-PP have submitted proposals for the program to have 18 million euros available as of next year.

The increase in the program’s budget is €3 million, compared to the €15 million foreseen initially, and is due to an amplification of the program’s beneficiaries.

On July 19, Parliament unanimously approved an extension of the program to people up to the age of 35 and a bolstering of its budgetary allocation, in line with the changes introduced. The maximum age of beneficiaries can even be increased to 37 years in the case of a couple in which one of the partners is within the legal age limit.
