Just 20.6% of Homes for Sale in Portugal Have a Garage

Madeira is the district with the third highest number of homes for sale that have a garage, following Porto and Vila Real.

Buying a home that has a garage or private parking place is no easy task. At a time when it is increasingly difficult to park in many of Portugal’s cities, practically just one in five homes for sale in Portugal has a garage, according to a study by the idealist, the Portuguese online real estate marketplace.

Porto is the district where the number of residential properties for sale with private parking space is the highest, with 31.6% of the properties on sale having this convenience. Porto is followed by Vila Real (27.7%), Madeira (27.1%), Bragança (26.6%), Braga (22.9%), Aveiro (21.3%) and Setúbal 1%). Below 20%, Coimbra (19.9%), Leiria (19.5%), Viana do Castelo (19.5%), Santarém (18.6%) and Lisbon (18.2%).

On the other side of the ranking are Castelo Branco, with only 7.9%, the lowest in the country, followed by the districts of Guarda (11.3%), Beja and Faro (13.8% in both cases).

Rentals

The percentage of housing available for rent that has a garage is slightly higher, at an average of 25.6% throughout the country. Braga is the district with the highest amount at 37.1%, followed by the island of Madeira (30.6%), Viseu (30.5%) and Aveiro (28.9%). The rate in Porto is 26.5% and Lisbon, 19%.

Évora has the fewest for rent with private parking (7.6%), followed by Faro (11.5%) and Setúbal (12.5%).
