Housing Prices Rise Even as Sales Fall in Portugal

24 September 2019 – Portugal statistical agency, the INE, announced that its Housing Price Index (IPHab) increased by 10.1% in the second quarter of 2019, year-on-year, even as housing sales fell by 6.6%.

Prices for new homes rose by 10.3%, and those or existing homes increased by 10.1%.

The index increased by 3.2% on a quarterly basis, as the price of new housing (4.1%) rose more quickly than that of existing housing (3%).

The IPHab’s annual average rate of change for the period was 9.3%, a fall of 0.2% from the previous quarter, the fourth consecutive quarter that the rate has declined in aggregate terms.
