Construction Boom in Portugal Continues Unabated

17 December 2019 – The boom in Portugal’s construction sector is still going strong. In the third quarter of 2019, developers obtaining licensing for 5,700 buildings, a year-on-year increase of 5.9%. Licensing for new builds increased by 6.2%, while permits for renovations rose by 3.9% over the same period last year, according to data from the INE.

Quarter-on-quarter, however, the number of licensed buildings decreased by 2.5%, while the number of completed buildings grew by 5.3%. Of the total number of buildings licensed, 69.4% were new, and of these, 76.4% were for residential family housing.
