Bank Valuation of Homes Increases Again in July

The average value of bank valuations for residential properties in Portugal rose to 1,117 euros per square meter in July.

The average bank valuation of homes in Portugal rose five euros in July, in monthly terms, to 1,117 euros per square meter, led to by an increase in the average valuations of flats, the National Statistics Institute (INE) announced.

“This figure represents an increase of 0.4% in relation to the one registered in June and 4.6% in relation to the same month of the previous year,” the Banking Valuations for Residential Housing survey reported on Tuesday.

Average valuations in Portugal have been rising monthly since April 2016, apart from March of this year, when it fell by 0.2%.

“The continuing increase in valuations was primarily caused by a 0.8% increase in the appraisal of flats, which is 0.6 percentage points higher than the increase observed for houses (0.2%),” INE’s report stated.

At the regional level, the largest increases were registered in the Centre, with an increase of 1.0% and in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, which registered an increase of 0.9%.

The only decline was in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, where the average valuation fell by 0.8%.
