Abandoned Hotel in Vila Real to Become Housing Development

23 July 2019 – Richard D. K. Turner

Rui Santos, the mayor of Vila Real, announced that an abandoned building on one of the city’s main avenues, 1o de Maio, will be converted into a residential development, removing a blight that has marred the city’s historic centre for nearly 40 years.

An insolvency fund sold the property at auction last year for over two million euros to Hélder Rodrigues, a construction executive from Bragança. Construction is set to begin by the end of this year.
