Next year, the Tourism Association of Porto and the North (ATP) will invest half a million euros in actions to market northern Portugal internationally. The new campaign will reach various countries, including China, Canada and Brazil.

Sandra Lorenz, the Interim Director of External Marketing at the ATP, explained to the Lusa news agency that the campaign is aimed at developing “sustained growth and counterbalancing seasonality in the search for a holiday destination” and to win over the attention of people in emerging countries, along with more traditional markets.

Plubituris says that marketing events and fam trips (low-cost visits for tour operators) are planned in conjunction with travel agents, tour operators and journalists from the Spain, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the United States, Italy, Poland and Israel, also reaching operators in China, Canada and Brazil.

Ms Lorenz explained that the campaign’s objective is to attract “priority” and “emerging” markets, presenting the city of Porto as a “port of arrival and a starting point to visit the Douro, Minho and Trás-os-Montes.” The strategy for the campaign has been developed over the course of 2017.

“We intend to market the region as a whole, as a wide-ranging opportunity to join adventure, history, culture, gastronomy and heritage, together with the possibility of enjoying the best of the region, whether as a backpacker or with the luxury of exclusivity,” Ms Lorenz explained.
