Tourism Flows Rose in October

The domestic market in Portugal contributed accounted for two million overnight stays, an increase of 65.4%.

Data on the tourism sector was published yesterday by the National Institute of Statistics. According to the analysis, tourist flows increased in October 2021, with 2.1 million guests and 5.5 million overnight stays, which increased 115.5% and 139.0%, respectively (+52.3% and +58.5% in September). The number of guests decreased by 14.6%, while overnight stays decreased by 13.5%, compared to October 2019.

The local market contributed two million overnight stays, increasing 65.4% in October, above the total for the same period in 2019 (+28.2%). Non-resident overnight stays totalled 3.5 million, the highest since October 2019, tripling compared to October 2020 (+216.6%). Compared to October 2019, however, the figure fell by 26.7%.
