26 April 2019 – Idealista

The University of Lisbon is currently investing 30 million euros in new student residences. Almost 200 new beds will already become available within the month, with the completion of the first phase of a residence in the neighbourhood Ajuda, at the cost of about four million euros. The project’s second phase will add another 120 beds by the end of the year.

The University of Lisbon’s Cantina II, next to the University City, will also be converted into a student residence. Within two years, upon the completion of construction, the new residence will have 197 beds, an investment of 5.6 million euros.

The Portuguese government has stated that providing additional housing to university students is an “unquestionable need.” Therefore, the National Accommodation Plan for Higher Education set a goal to provide another 15,000 beds by 2030.
