Public Works Tenders Fall 23% in Year to May

April 28, 2021 – Ana Custódio

In May, the public works market maintained a negative trajectory. The figures stem from the Public Works Barometer, published on Friday by AICCOPN (Association of Civil Construction and Public Works Industries).

The drop in the volume of new public tenders was balanced by an increase in the number of contracts signed.

In the first five months of the year, the total amount of public works tenders stood at 1.713 billion euros, down 23% y-o-y. The drop is slightly less than the -29% in April.

Public works contracts signed and reported in the Base Portal, under public tenders,  reached 1.249 billion euros in the same period, up 68% year-on-year.

Public works contracts concluded as a result of Direct Adjustments and Prior Consultations, in the same period, rose by 18% to 216 million euros.

According to AICCOPN, the total amount of contracts signed by the end of May stood at 1.554 billion euros, up 46% y-o-y, unchanged from the figure last month.
