Project for New Commercial Space in the Rossio Quarter Approved

13 November 2020The Lisbon City Council project approved a project yesterday which would transform the Rossio quarter, where the well-known bakery Pastelaria Suíça once operated, into a commercial area.

The four buildings that make up the ‘Rossio Pombalino’ block, totalling more than 12,000 square metres of surface area, will be entirely occupied by commercial spaces. The redevelopment is scheduled for completion in 2023.

The Spanish firm Mabel Capital, in partnership with the British fund Jackyl and the investor Harald McPike, acquired the property in February 2018 for 62 million euros by.

Aura Ree Portugal has reported that the architecture studio Contacto Atlântico’s proposal for the site was approved: “In this project, the main objective was to give back to the city a set of spaces that restore the urban landscape to its original grandeur. [This includes] going back to the original Pombaline style along the block, maintaining its original shape and dimensions.”
