Porto to Exceed One Hundred Hotels

28 November 2017

The 140-year-old Grand Hotel de Paris will almost double in size.

Porto will soon have more than 100 hotels. At least ten hotels in the city nicknamed ‘Invicta’ are expected to be inaugurated in the next two years, joining the existing 88 accredited with the National Tourism Registry.

Pensão Monumental, Pestana Douro Palace, Neya Porto Hotel and Brasileira were some of the examples presented in this Tuesday’s edition of the Jornal de Notícias. According to the JN, even the oldest hotels in the city are applauding the boom in tourism in Porto. This includes the 140-year-old Grande Hotel de Paris, which is planning expansion works that will almost double its current capacity.

According to the Lusa news agency, the interim director for International Marketing of the Tourism Association of Porto and the North (ATP), Sandra Lorenz stated that plans are in development to mitigate the seasonality of tourism in the North. Thus, an investment of half a million euros in marketing is planned for countries such as China, Canada and Brazil.

“In a clear commitment to promote the [Northern] region in markets that will enable us to achieve sustained growth and combat the seasonality of the demand for tourist destinations,” ATP is expected to invest next year a “greater amount” in international marketing than was invested in 2017, amounting to “roughly 400,000 euros,” Ms Lorenz explained.
