Paula Amorim and Two Others Are Interested in Buying Comporta

Herdade da Comporta has been on sale since its owners went into insolvency with the collapse of BES, but the sale is now more urgent, and the risk of bankruptcy is rising.

Paula Amorim, together with the consortium she created with the real estate group Vanguard Properties, plans to buy Herdade da Comporta, Expresso reported this Saturday. Vanguard’s general director, José Cardoso Botelho, told Expresso that the purchase is near completion, although it is not yet known when this might happen.

Herdade da Comporta came on the market after the collapse of the Espírito Santo Group, and the group’s owners went into insolvency. Several groups have expressed interest in the real estate assets of the Special Property Investment Fund, but now the sale is more urgent, and Herdade da Comporta needs to sell, or it will go bankrupt.

“There is, in fact, a solid consortium formed by the largest Portuguese business group, of which Paula Amorim is a shareholder,” a spokesperson for French millionaire Claude Berda, who founded Vanguard Properties, confirmed. The sales price of the 1,360-hectare property, however, has yet to be revealed.

Pedro Almeida, an entrepreneur, had previously made an offer for the property. At the time, the sale was not finalised because the Public Prosecution Service refused to lift the seizure it has on Herdade da Comporta. The sales price was to have been 420 million euros.

However, other parties are also interested in buying Comporta. The Luxembourg-based holding company Oakvest is one, and the French aristocrat Louis-Albert de Broglie is another, according to Expresso and Visão.
