New Resort Planned at the Sanctuary of Cape Espichel

24 November 2020A coming public tender will allow for the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Cape Espichel, in Sesimbra, to be converted into major tourist development. While the auction’s date remains to be defined, the powers to launch and conduct the public tender have already been delegated to Turismo de Portugal.

The needed investments associated with the new development, where the landscape and architecture are considered to be of historical interest, are not yet known. The project, however, may lead both to the construction of a new hotel and other tourist attractions.

The mayor, Francisco Jesus, spoke to Sem Mais, saying, “the launch of the public tender is like a light at the end of the tunnel, because it conveys the hope that, after many decades, that mystical site will finally be rehabilitated and used for purposes that benefit not only the municipality but the whole of the Setúbal peninsula.”
