Municipal Licensing for Builders up by 51% in Porto

3 February 2020 Confidencial Imobiliário (CI) reported that individuals and developers in Portugal applied for municipal licensing to build more than 47,000 houses, an increase of 20% year-on-year. CI bases these studies energy pre-certificates issued by ADENE.

CI’s analysis reveals that the licensing of new construction projects increased by 21% last year. In total, more than 38,000 new homes were put on the market. Additionally, builders registered nearly nine thousand rehabilitation works, 13% more than in 2018.

While the Metropolitan Area of ​​Lisbon accounts for more than a quarter of the homes under development, Porto saw the highest growth as licensed construction projects soared by 51%.
