11 September 2020 – The Moura City Hall in Beja announced that it had approved the licensing for the architectural project for the Convento do Carmo. The abandoned property, scheduled to reopen in 2022, will be converted into a five-star hotel under the auspices of the REVIVE Programme, in an investment of 11 million euros.
The 50-year concession to property was awarded to the Portuguese developer SPPTH in September of last year. Built in 1251, the Convento do Carmo in Moura was the 1st Carmelite Order founded on the Iberian Peninsula.
