A high-performance training centre will be built to receive top teams.

A tourism-related mega project, which will have more than three thousand beds, is planned for the area between the beaches of Falésia and Rocha Baixinha, near the Quarteira river, in the municipality of Albufeira. The Sunset Albufeira Sport & Health Resort will receive an investment of 119 million euros. The environmental impact assessment will be open for public consultation until next Friday, August 11.

With a construction area of 95 hectares, the project will have a housing capacity, according to the environmental impact study, of “3532 beds, with 2532 existing beds from Alfamar subject to restoration, maintenance and expansion, and 1004 beds slated for new construction.”

Libertas-Investimento Imobiliário and Sun House are behind this mega project, which focuses on “residential health and sports tourism,” the study said. In addition, the investors plan to upgrade and add to existing sports equipment and to set up a high-performance training centre to “support athletes and coaching staff”, and in particular, “premier league teams.”

The project also provides for a rural hotel and a Farmer’s Club, with agricultural equipment and a riding centre. Organic agricultural products will be produced and detached houses will have their own vegetable gardens.

The development will also have health and physical rehabilitation services.
