MatosinhosHabit to Redevelop Housing Complex

9 April 2020 The Barrio do Pescador Housing Complex, which consists of 104 flats, will undergo significant renovations of both the interior and exterior areas. The building has a mixture of private residences and publicly-owned dwellings. The private homes will have access to financing under the First Right Access to Housing program while MatosinhosHabit, the local housing authority, will directly intervene in the public housing.

In the first phase of construction, MatosinhosHabit will renovate some of the surrounding spaces, reformulating basic infrastructure, including public lighting, telecoms, drainage, security, and waste disposal. In the next phase, the local authority will renovate a largely municipally-owned apartment block, which will, in turn, serve as a stimulus for private homeowners to access financing to refurbish their flats.

The redevelopment was recently approved by the Board of Directors of MatosinhosHabit. The measure will now head for ratification by the municipality of Matosinhos.
