Madeira Takes Part in FITUR 2018

The Portuguese region was host to about 30,000 Spanish tourists in the first ten months of 2017, with a total of 138,600 overnight stays in regional hotels.

Madeira is taking part in the fair in Madrid, beginning this Wednesday. In its 38th edition, FITUR, the most important exhibition targeting the Iberian Peninsula’s tourism sector, is a host to the largest Portuguese delegati0n ever, including the seven primary Portuguese tourism regions.

The Madeira Promotion Bureau is representing the autonomous archipelago, in a joint action involving seven regional members.

During the fair, which ends on January 21, many meetings and get-togethers with tour operators and airlines are planned. Thursday will see a conference on the future of wine tourism.

In the first ten months of 2017, about 30,000 Spanish tourists visited Madeira, totalling 138,600 overnight stays in regional hotels, and corresponding to an average stay of five nights. Spain currently ranks seventh among the countries that send the highest number of tourists to the archipelago.

In 2017, FITUR hosted 66,841 professionals, 53,390 exhibitors and 97,549 visitors. The event also brought together 9,083 companies, from 165 countries/regions, occupying a total of 611 stands.
