Luxury That’s “Made in Portugal” Gains Notice Internationally

Luxury offerings in Portugal, which cover a diverse range of segments, are consolidating their presence on the radars of international magazines.

The success of tourism in Portugal has been increasingly recognised by international awards, reflecting how much the country and its diversified tourism offerings have invested in quality and excellence.

The Marriott Praia D’El Rey, located near the medieval village of Óbidos, in the middle of the Silver Coast, has just been recognised as the best luxury hotel & Spa of the year in Portugal by the prestigious travel publication Luxury Travel Guide.

Every year, the Luxury Travel Guide bestows awards for excellence in the travel and tourism industry across the world. A team of travel experts criss-crosses Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East, Asia and Australia, to discover and evaluate the best hotels, airlines and tour operators in the world. The traveller’s rigorous evaluations result in a select group of winners.

The Praia D’El Rey Golf and Beach Resort is a luxury resort with a 177-room hotel, self-catering accommodations in The BeachFront’s premium villas, apartments in The Village, four restaurants – Tempera, Emprata, Maré and Club House – a Wellness Center, and the Kalyan Spa. The five-star resort also has one of the best golf courses in Europe, the 18-hole, par 73 Beach D’El Rey and its Golf Academy, as well as the Tennis Academy a seven-court tennis centre.

Recently, the Quinta de Nossa Senhora do Carmo was also recognised as one of the “Best Wine Resorts of the World” by the British luxury travel and lifestyle magazine Condé Nast Traveler (one of the most internationally recognised publications). The magazine’s list of the best wine resorts is restricted to just seventeen international hotels, thus placing Portugal in excellent company.

Quinta Nova was thereby confirmed as a reference in the wine tourism industry in Portugal, having already been highlighted by American Airlines as one of the world’s must-see wineries and by the Financial Times, which praised Quinta as having the “most impressive” gastronomy in the Douro, among many other highlights and prizes.

In a contemporary setting that that nevertheless has a number of historic sites, visitors can experience the world of wine and vineyards. To this is added the Wine Museum Center Fernanda Ramos Amorim, a museum focused on wine tourism.
