Lisbon: New Neighborhood of Bairro da Cruz Vermelha to Cost About €12MM

The Municipality of Lisbon (CML) is undertaking the rehabilitation and construction of the future Bairro da Cruz Vermelha in an investment of approximately 12 million euros.

The construction company Gabriel Couto was selected to execute the works. The Bairro da Cruz Vermelha will be located in the parish of Santa Clara, within the PUAL (Alto Lumiar Development Plan), and is a part of a series of urban renewal and regeneration projects undertaken by the CML, with the aim of making significant improvements to existing housing and public spaces, and consequently its inhabitants’ quality of life.

Alto do Lumiar, currently known as Alta de Lisboa, is made up of 300 hectares of land with more than 33 areas and is located between two important vectors for the city of Lisbon, the Cidade Universitária and the Humberto Delgado International Airport.

The project for the district of the Bairro da Cruz Vermelha is under the responsibility of the “ORANGE – Architecture and Project Management” Department. This stage of the urban redevelopment and regeneration will see the construction of a new social housing project consisting of 130 new homes and more than 150 new parking spaces. The project will also focus on the energy efficiency and long-term sustainability of the new homes to ensure sustainable energy consumption, with ecological systems compatible with the habits of the residents while at the same time, reducing maintenance costs over time.

According to Gabriel Couto, the current contract will be the third intervention of this kind in Vila Nova de Famalicão, Lisbon, following the Bairro da Boavista Rehabilitation project – Phase 1 (in the final phase of construction), and more recently, the Rehabilitation of Bairro Padre Cruz (under construction). At the end of these three projects, Gabriel Couto will contribute to CML’s urban regeneration plan by building 232 new homes on a total construction area of over 22,500 m2.
