Lisbon City Council to Invest in Redevelopment of Novo Cais de Lisboa

28 November 2019 – The mayor of Lisbon, Fernando Medina, announced that the Lisbon City Council and the Lisbon Tourism Association (ATL) would jointly invest 27 million euros in redeveloping the city riverfront.

The city council will invest 16 million euros in the area, which is between Terreiro do Paço and Doca da Marinha, using funds from the Lisbon Tourism Development Fund (financed through tourist taxes). ATL will provide the rest of the necessary funds to develop the Novo Cais de Lisboa (New Quay), to be completed during the second half of 2020.

The works will include the reconstruction of the Muro das Namoradeiras, the removal of the Cais das Colunas embankment and the rehabilitation of the South and Southeast Station and the Doca da Marinha.
