Lidl’s recent and most modern warehouse, a 73 million euro investment, is already operating at full capacity.

The new and state-of-the-art Lidl logistics centre is already operating at full capacity, supplying the supermarket chain’s stores in the north of Portugal, after a €73-million investment. According to Lidl’s press release, the new warehouse has created almost 200 new jobs and has boosted the local economy by developing a new industrial area in Portugal’s north.

Located in the Industrial Area of Ermida, the warehouse occupies an area of 48,000 square metres. It can supply more than 100 stores, guaranteeing greater response efficiency and significant gains in terms of operational sustainability. The facility has a storage capacity of 55,000 pallets and has more than 90 docks.

It is Lidl’s first semi-robotic warehouse in the country, which brings benefits such as a greater storage capacity gain per square meter, reduced product loss, increased operational efficiency, and streamlined pallet entry and exit organisation. The stand-out investment by the retailer in its warehouses introduces a new industrial model in which automation technologies are included in the execution of intelligent buildings.
