Licensing for New Homes Skyrockets 37.3% in January and February

Portugal’s housing market continued to power along in the first two months of the year. According to AICCOPN’s Statistical Housing Synthesis, Portugal’s city councils issued licenses for 3,851 homes in new buildings, an increase of 37.3% y-o-y.

The concession of residential mortgages by financial institutions to households rose by 13.1% y-o-y in February, to €1.5 billion. At the same time, outstanding loans to construction and real estate companies continued to fall, this time by 10.3% y-o-y.

Residential bank valuations rose by 6.8% y-o-y in February to €1,239 euros per m2. Flats were valued at 1,310 euros per m2, an increase of 8% y-o-y, while the price of houses rose by 5.2% to  1,125 euros.
