Licensing for New Homes Increases by 40.1%

In the period between January and November of 2018, the number of new homes licensed increased by 40.1%, for a total of new 18,287 dwellings.
According to AICCOPN’s Housing Statistics Synthesis for January 2019, Portuguese municipalities issued a total of 13,754 new construction and housing renovation licenses in the year to November, an increase of 24.3% over the same period in 2017.
In November, the concession of new housing loans increased by 20.1% in cumulative terms. The outstanding stock of loans increased by 0.3%, and lending to construction and real estate companies continued to decline compared to 2017.
This month, the average value of residential bank valuations reached 1,215 euros per square meter, 6.2% more than the same month of the previous year.
On the other hand, the consumption of cement in the Portuguese market from January to November 2018 reached a 5-year high, totalling 2.6 million tonnes, 3.7% more than in the same period of last year.
