Imamat Ismaili Acquires the Palacete Leitão in Lisboa for €13.5 Million

12 October 2020 – Imamat Ismaili, an institution led by Prince Aga Khan, the current Imam of the Shia Muslim Ismailis, has acquired the Palacete Leitão in Lisbon for 13.5 million euros. The building, located on Rua Marquês de Fronteira, is situated next to the group’s future world headquarters and will house some of its operations.

The new acquisition reinforces Imamat Ismaili’s investment in Portugal, where work is currently underway on its new headquarters in the Palácio Mendonça. The two neighbouring buildings will jointly house the institution’s services and its international agencies in Lisbon.

The Lisbon City Hall and the Directorate General for Cultural Heritage signalled their approval of the acquisition by not exercising their right of preference to acquire the property.
