Housing Prices Up 0.9% in April

19 May 2021 – Ana Custódio

Housing sales on mainland Portugal rose by 0.9% in April compared to the month before.

Even though the figure was below 1.0%, it was one of the highest month-on-month increases since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. The data stems from Confidencial Imobiliário’s Residential Price Index for Mainland Portugal.

In December 2020, however, the month-on-month growth reached a pandemic high of 1.0%.

Housing prices rose by 3.0% y-o-y in April, in a slight acceleration compared to the year-on-year change of 2.6% observed in the two previous months.

The year-on-year increase is still a long way from that of a year ago when the indicator reached 15.0%.

The average sales price of homes on mainland Portugal reached €1,723/m2 in April, with an average sales time of 6 months.

The Confidencial Imobiliário Residential Price Index follows the changes in residential transaction prices and is based on data reported to the SIR – Sistema de Informação Residencial (Residential Information System) since 2007.
