Government to Finance Increased Energy Efficiency in Pre-2006 Homes

2 September 2020 – The Portuguese government announced that it would launch a programme that would help owners of homes built before 2006 improve their energy efficiency while boosting the economy. The initiative would subsidise limited renovations such as changing windows or installing solar panels.

The government plans to finance 70% of the cost of such renovations, up to a limit of 7,500 euros. The programme has a budget of 4.5 million euros.

Thermal insulation provided it uses eco- or recycled materials, heat pumps, solar thermal boilers and high-efficiency biomass recoverers will be included under the programme, among others.
