An injection of 10 million euros in public funds into the Valorizar Program, which aims to stimulate tourism projects in the interior, was announced today in the Diário da República

The Valorizar Program, created through Decree No. 9/2016, on October 20, 2016, and published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, no. 208, of October 28, 2016, has as its objective providing the means to contribute to the continuous improvement of tourism projects, in particular by renovating and rehabilitating public spaces that will in turn boost interest in tourism, enhancing the country’s cultural and natural heritage, developing conditions for promoting sustainable tourism, increasing employment and adding value throughout the year and throughout Portugal.

According to Portugal’s Secretary for Tourism, Ana Mendes Godinho, the Valorizar Program has highlighted the broad demand for aid in stimulating the development of tourism projects in low-density areas, demonstrating high levels of interest in using tourism as a regional development tool, while also boosting territorial cohesion.

The new injection will increase the Valorizar Program’s overall budget allocation from 20 to 30 million euros, doubling the budget of the Regional Tourism Development program and reinforcing the endowment of the Wi- Fi Availability Support program.

Decree No. 8/2017 also introduced some adjustments to the Wi- Fi Availability Support program and the Accessible Tourism program.
