Construction and Rehabilitation Permits Skyrocket by 18.8% in One Year

In the first two months of 2018, 2,248 projects for the construction and rehabilitation of residential buildings were licensed by city councils, 18.8% more than in the same period last year. The number of licensed new constructions increased 19.6% year-on-year, as 2,627 new buildings were licensed.

The data are a part of the Association of Industrial Construction and Public Works’ (AICCOPN) Statistical Synthesis of Housing for April.

According to the document, “up to February, the consumption of cement in the domestic market totalled 436,000 tons, an increase of 8.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.”

Regarding the “stock of credit granted by financial institutions to companies in the construction and real estate sector, there was a decline of 2.7% in year-on-year terms in February”. “Similarly, the stock of housing loans granted by financial institutions to individuals witnessed a reduction of 1.5%, reaching €92.86 billion. There was an increase of 21% regarding new loans granted for the acquisition of housing,” AICCOPN stated.

There was an increase of 4.6% in year-on-year terms regarding the average value of bank valuations in the housing market, in February, reaching 1,160 euros per square meter.
