Colégio de São Fiel in Castelo Branco in Competition for New Hotel

28 March 2018

The old Jesuit college had been vacant since 2003 and caught fire last year.

This Wednesday, the Portuguese government launched a public tender for the installation of a new hotel at the Colégio de São Fiel, in Castelo Branco, one of the 33 properties that have been registered under the Revive program. The property burned down in the wildfires of August 2017.

In a statement sent to the Lusa news agency, the Secretary of State for Tourism explained that a public tender has now been launched for the Colegio de São Fiel property in Castelo Branco, for the installation of a new hotel. Interested investors have 60 days to apply.

The former Jesuit college, located in the parish of Louriçal do Campo, in Castelo Branco, burned down in the wildfires of August 2017 and had been vacant since 2003, when a youth re-education centre had operated there.

“The launch of the public tender for the recovery of this property aims to boost the economic recovery of this area affected by last year’s wildfires, as well as to boost tourism in the Central region,” the statement read.
