CML Approves Construction of 267 Subsidised Rental Homes – 116 in Parque das Nações
22 November 2018
In early November, the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon (AML) approved the inauguration of two new projects within the scope of the Affordable Rents Program (PRA). In total, 267 subsidised homes will be built, out of a total of 443 new homes, in Belém, Lumiar, Parque das Nações and the parish of São Vicente. 116 subsidised homes will be built just in Parque das Nações.
The “Integrated Affordable Rents Operation,” which involves municipally-owned real estate in Belém, Lumiar and Parque das Nações – will lead to the construction 218 subsidised rental homes, out of a total of 372 housing units – and “Affordable Rents Operation – Vila Macieira,” in the parish of S. Vicente – will see an additional 49 subsidised rental homes built, out of a total of 71 homes.
“This program involves the concession of municipal land or real estate for the development of affordable rental homes, through the use of private investment, chosen through public tender. The resulting subsidised homes will have mandatory rental and management rules set by the municipality, while the rest will contribute to financing the operation, whose terms of reference and specifications are also set by the municipality,” the AML’s website states.
As can be seen in the proposal for the Integrated Affordable Rents Operation, the program is comprised of three PRA intervention areas:
- 40 houses are planned for the Belém intervention area, all of them for use as subsidised rental homes, to be built on land located on Rua Alvisse Cadamosto.
- 62 houses are planned for the Lumiar intervention area, all of them for use as subsidised rental homes, to be built on land located on Rua Prof. Orlando Ribeiro, lot G2.
- 270 houses are planned for the Parque das Nações intervention area, 116 of which will be allocated to the subsidised rental market, to be built on lots A, B and C and in the Free Lot located at Rua Joaquim Alves Correia.
In the case of the “Affordable Rents Operation – Vila Macieira,” 49 affordable rental homes will be built out of a total of 71 homes, distributed in two lots: in Vale de Santo António, near the Calçada dos Barbadinhos, and along Rua General Justiniano Padrel, in the parish of São Vicente.
The PRA plans to develop affordable housing in 15 different locations throughout the capital. The program will offer studios for rent for up to 300 euros per month, one-bedroom homes for up to 350 euros, two-bedroom properties for up to 500 euros and three or four-bedroom homes for up to 600 euros.
