Centro Lionesa to Double its Office Space

27 November 2017

The project for the expansion of the Lionesa Business Centre in Matosinhos (Leça do Bailio) was presented in Lisbon, which will double its office space by 2025, from the current 43,000 sqm to over 100,000 square meters.

The first part of the project is already underway and includes 20,000 sqm of new office space that will be completed by 2020. JLL was one of the companies selected for marketing the new areas.

Strategically positioned between Porto, Matosinhos and Maia, the centre of Lionesa has a vast network of road accesses, benefiting from the proximity to central hubs such as the Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport (10 minutes). With practically all of its office space occupied, the Centro Lionesa is now home to more than 100 companies in various operating in a number of areas, with a particular emphasis on the technological sector. The companies which call the centre home include such names as Farfetch, Hilti, Uber, Vodafone’s Contact Centre operated by RH Mais and Li & Fung.

Undergoing constant change over the next seven years, the Lionesa will be the target of an investment in the order of 100 million euros that will double the amount of office space it currently has on offer, enabling it to accommodate 10,000 people daily instead of the current 4,000 users. The first phase of expansion will be completed by 2020, including new office, retail and sports areas, as well as business and university residences, a hotel and a bike path.

Mariana Rosa, director of JLL’s Office Agency department, comments: “On one hand, this project meets a clear need in the Porto market, responding to the latent demand for large areas of offices that are currently difficult to satisfy. On the other hand, it also consolidates the position of Lionesa as one of the largest creative clusters in the region, giving it new arguments and tools to attract entrepreneurs, constituting itself as a true city of thinkers and doers. We are very pleased to be able to work with Lionesa in this new phase. This is a project that promises to continue to set standards for the region and act as a magnet for attracting companies. As such, we have no doubt that it will be a marketing success.”
