APEMIP Creates Strategic Real Estate Council

20 October 2017

The new body’s objective will be to advocate for consumer rights and high-quality service

The Portuguese Association of Realtors and Real Estate Agents (APEMIP) will set up a strategic council, an organ that is intended to “debate the future” of the real estate brokerage profession, but above all, “the quality of service provided to consumers.” Manuel Alvarez, of Remax Portugal, Fernando Sapinho, of Sotheby’s International Realty Portugal, Paulo Morgado, of ERA, Ricardo Sousa, representing Century 21 Portugal, Eric Van Leuven, of Cushman & Wakefield and Reinaldo Teixeira, of Garvetur are on the council together with Luís Lima, president of APEMIP.

The memorandum of understanding between the strategic council’s various participants will be signed, this Friday afternoon, at the Real Estate Exhibition of Portugal, which runs until Sunday at FIL.

“The growth of the market has been very beneficial, but it has also led to the proliferation of entities and agents and puts the credibility of the sector and the quality of the services that are provided to its customers in question. And APEMIP cannot permit doubts to persist regarding the work of professionals in the sector. We have set up the Strategic Council so that we will be able to work together to find not one but several solutions that promote professionalisation and market security, to protect our consumers,” APEMIP’s president said in a statement.

The memorandum signed this afternoon is “particularly important at a time of market recovery and optimistic prospects for growth,” said Miguel Poisson, general manager for Sotheby’s International Realty Portugal. The new body will “guarantee consumers/customers a kind of quality seal vis-à-vis the service provided”, also functioning as a “space for debate and analysis for any challenges the sector may be faced with in the future.”

Sotheby’s Realty, which will be represented by Fernando Sapinho on the strategic council, intends to “contribute” to improving consumer guarantees, as well as “reinforcing the work among real estate brokerage companies to delineate future paths for the profession in Portugal.”
