Algarve. Occupancy rates above 80%

6 July 2017

AHETA registered the highest increases in Tavira (+6.8%), Lagos/Sagres (+4.4%) and Monte Gordo/Vila Real de Santo António (+3.3%).

Average occupancy per room in the Algarve was at 81.8% in June, a figure that is “on par” with the rate recorded in the same period of last year. The data were provided by the Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA).

The markets with the greatest variations in visitors were Germany, raising 12.2%, and Portugal, falling by 26.2%.

As for geographical areas, AHETA registered the highest increases in Tavira (+6.8%), Lagos/Sagres (+4.4%) and Monte Gordo/Vila Real de Santo António (+3.3%).

“The main declines were in Vilamoura/Quarteira/Quinta do Lago (-7.7%) and Carvoeiro/Armação de Pêra (-4.1%)”, the Algarve hotel association added in the statement in which it released the data, stating that “Albufeira, the main tourist area of the Algarve, did not change in relation to the previous year”.

Contrary to what is customary in AHETA’s publication of monthly average occupancy data, the hotel association did not provide figures on the main variations in the different categories of hotel units.

“Sales volume increased 4.2% during the month. In accumulated terms, since the beginning of the year, the room occupancy rate has registered an increase of 4.0%,” AHETA added.
