600 Families in Coimbra to Gain Support Under the First Right Law

23 December 2020 – The Coimbra City Hall has finalised the drafting pf its Local Housing Strategy for the next decade, a document that will serve as a basis for applying for funding under the Portuguese government’s First Right Housing programme. The document, which will be analysed and voted on at the next City Hall meeting, provides for an investment of €33 million to help support 6000 families’  housing needs.

According to the newspaper Notícias de Coimbra, the funds will be used to promote urban rehabilitation of the city centre and to expand the supply of new rental housing. The plan is to increase the existing housing stock by approximately 500 dwellings. The municipality has already invested around 11 million euros to upgrade sites in the municipal districts of Rosa, Conchada, Ingote and Celas.
