2019 Sees a Strong Start for the Real Estate Market

According to a study by the Portuguese Association of Civil Construction and Public Works Industries (AICCOPN), the Statistical Summary of Housing, Portugal’s municipal councils issued 1,405 licenses for the construction and rehabilitation of residential buildings, an increase of 17.3% year-on-year.

The study, which was the subject of an article in the Diário Imobiliário, published the following figures regarding the market:

  • Licensing for the construction of new residential buildings increased by 42.5% to 1,835 dwellings.
  • The issuance of new mortgages rose by 17.8% y-o-y to 747 million euros in January.
  • Average bank valuations increased by 6.3% y-o-y to 1,226 euros per m2.
  • Domestic cement consumption rose by 15.9% y-o-y.
