Covilhã: Town Council Buys Former Banco de Portugal Building

27 October 2017

The Covilhã City Council announced today that it bought the former Banco de Portugal building in the city for 390,000 euros. The company Águas da Covilhã (AdC) will now take up residence at the property.

The municipality of the district of Castelo Branco points out that the Court of Auditors “gave a green light for the completion of the deal” and that the AdC is expected to move in “before the end of the year”.

The mayor, Vítor Pereira, who is quoted in the council’s press release, believes that “the occupation of this emblematic property will improve upon the AdC’s current premises and preserve a historically valuable building.”

Mr Pereira also stressed that “it is a magnificent building that we must preserve, while at the same time keeping the historical centre of the city full of life.”
