Vila Franca Acquires Land from Navy for Redevelopment

The deed of acquisition of the lands of the former No. 1 School of the Armada (Navy), in Vila Franca de Xira, by the Vila Franca de Xira town council, was signed in a ceremony held last Thursday. The investment amounted to 8.1 million euros.
The Navy’s old facilities have a privileged waterfront location benefit from the surrounding road and railroad infrastructure and are therefore considered an area of immense strategic importance for the municipality.
The council is planning on redeveloping the entire area, creating a new structured urban connection between Vila Franca de Xira and Alhandra. The changes that are expected include the creation of leisure and recreational spaces, spaces for the pursuit of economic activities, as well as the improvement of mobility and the implementation of new connections to the river.
