Martinhal Group Buys the Former Home of the Universidade Independente

5 April 2018

The Martinhal Group is buying the land of the former Independent University, on Marechal Gomes da Costa Avenue, near Parque das Nações. The group aims to build a top-flight international school.

The PLMJ Urbanism team, led by Sara Blanco de Morais, is providing consulting on the deal. In a statement, PLMJ said that the Martinhal Group is betting on a strategy of expansion and diversification by building an international school that will teach students from the 1st to the 12th grade, with a capacity for 800-900 students, with classes beginning in the 2019/2020 academic year.

According to Ms Morais, a partner at PLMJ Urbanism: “This was an extremely challenging operation from the legal point of view. PLMJ has been advising the Martinhal Group, an international reference, on a number of projects. The operation involved managing of the purchase of the land, monitoring the urban planning phase and developing the architectural project, which is still ongoing.”

Manuel da Silva Gomes and Nuno Pimentel Gomes, lawyers at PLMJ Urbanism, were also involved in the project. PLMJ’s specialised team has been active on various Urban Planning and Territorial Planning projects in the public and private sectors, including the inauguration of the Martinhal Resort in Sagres, the Martinhal Chiado and the Martinhal da Quinta do Lago.
