The Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, More Glamor and Sophistication

12 December 2017

The Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, in Lisbon, one of the most glamorous hotels in the capital, has just completed renovations. The Lisbon office of the multinational architectural firm Broadway Malyan was selected by the Minor Group for the hotel’s refurbishment project, which is the Asian group’s reference property in Portugal.

The intervention included the modernization of the hotel’s 250 rooms, the transformation of the emblematic lobby and a renovation of the restaurants, as well as the creation of a new spa and a business lounge, as well as a new design for the iconic Sky Bar.

In the main lobby, Broadway Malyan has created a stunning reception area for guests. In addition to having a renovated lounge area with new glass ceiling, the entrance area has been altered with a chromatic language that blends several shades of blue and a luxurious gold using new artworks and pieces of contemporary and classic furniture, preserving the hotel’s classic style.

The refurbishment also included the creation of a new business lounge for guests, as well as a six-room spa, a new development in both the long history of the hotel and other units of the Tivoli brand. As part of the Malyan Broadway project, the ground-floor restaurant area, including the Liberdade Brewery, was remodelled.

Stunning views of the city

The transformation of the Sky Bar, which received an imposing new staircase, with curved lines and contemporary furniture, was also part of the project and allowed the creation one of the most impressive leisure areas in Lisbon where guests can enjoy breath-taking views the city. The rooftop restaurant, Terraza, was also renovated with a menu designed by the prestigious Portuguese chef, Rui Paula.

Margarida Caldeira, director of Broadway Malyan, explained that the project was intended to bring a more contemporary look to the hotel, but without losing the traces of its famous splendour.

“The Tivoli Avenida Liberdade is one of the jewels in Lisbon’s crown and this project allowed us to create a modern five-star hotel with unique values without sacrificing the style and inspiration that were a mainstay of its 85-year history”, says the architect.

The Tivoli Hotel building was designed by the great Lisboense architect, Porfírio Pardal Monteiro, who was also the author of many other historical works in the Portuguese capital. The second phase of construction of the hotel, to the south, was designed by his nephew, António Pardal Monteiro, in collaboration with Anselmo Fernandez.

The Tivoli Avenida Liberdade renovation project is one of three signed by Malyan Broadway for the Minor Group in Portugal, adding to the renovation of the former Tivoli Jardim, also in Lisbon, which was the first hotel operated under the Avani brand in Portugal; as well as the 4 to 5-star upgrade for the Tivoli Carvoeiro in the Algarve.
