Pestana Lays Foundation Stone for New Hotel in Alvor

27 September 2017

The Minister of Economy will participate in a ceremony commemorating the €50-million investment, one which will create 300 jobs.

The Pestana group’s largest hotel will begin construction this Thursday, September 28, in Alvor, in the municipality of Portimão. With a still provisional name, the Hotel Pestana Quinta da Amoreira representatives of the hospitality group will lay the foundation stone together with Manuel Caldeira Cabral, the Minister of Economy. Pedro Lopes, CEO of the Pestana Group Algarve, and Isilda Gomes, the mayor of Portimão, will also participate.

The new hotel represents a significant, €50-million investment for the brand in the region, one which will create 300 direct jobs at the new 5-star hotel. The hotel will be located on a 12.8-hectare farm between the Hotel Pestana Delfim, Alvor Nascente beach and Pestana Alto Golf.

A look at the new hotel

The new hotel will have pedestrian access to the beach and the Alto Golf, 450 accommodation units, distributed in 388 rooms and 62 suites, three bars, a multi-purpose playground and a paddle tennis court. It is part of the UP2 Alto do Poço and Alvor Urbanisation Plan.

Among other characteristics, the new hotel will include four restaurants; the main one, a grill and two themed restaurants. The hotel will also have six swimming pools, four of which are for adults and young people, one covered pool in the SPA building, and another for children in an area called Kids Club. The SPA will have a gym, four massage rooms, a sauna, a Turkish bath, and an indoor swimming pool.

According to Barlavento, Pestana has planned extensive green areas for the hotel, preserving the vast majority of the existing trees on the property, including olive trees, carob trees and large mulberry trees.

The group’s vision for one of the largest investments in a hotel unit is innovative. It will be the first all-inclusive, 5-star hotel in Portugal, designed from scratch, to meet the needs of the most sophisticated and demanding clients in this market segment, on a level with many of the best resorts in the Caribbean. The unit will consist of single and two-storey buildings with internal circulation limited to pedestrians and electric vehicles. It will also use sustainable energy, such as solar panels and the existing desalination plant at Pestana in Alvor.

In the Algarve, the Pestana Hotel Group has 13 hotels and resorts, three Pousadas de Portugal and five golf courses.
