Hotels on track for best year ever

17 June 2017

Hotels beat all previous records in the first quarter Easter helped in April. In May, it was the Pope.

“2017 is expected to fall somewhere inbetween being our best year ever and being our best year ever,” says Cristina Siza Vieira, executive president of the Association of Hoteliers in Portugal (AHP). The optimism of the Portuguese hospitality industry is based on the numbers already published for the first four months of the year. “With the growth we saw in the low season, and April confirmed the trend we’ve been seeing, then we can only project this to be the best year ever,” he explains.

The hotels present themselves as the first option for accommodation for the summer of 2017 and the executive points out other events that will help maintain high occupancy rates for hotels outside of the high season, such as Pope Francis’s visit in May, the general assembly of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers in June, major medical events scheduled for the fall and the return of WebSummit in November.
