Hotel Occupancy in the Algarve Reaches 93.9% in August

The average occupancy rate per hotel room in the Algarve during August reached 93.9%, the same level as in 2016

According to data from the Association of Hotels and Resorts of the Algarve (AHETA), the British tourist market registered a significant decrease during August (16.3%), linked to the devaluation of the pound by 15% in the last year.

However, tourists from within Portugal itself saw the highest increase (+10%), contrary to last year’s trend. They were followed by the Germans (+4.6%), with increases also occurring in smaller markets, namely Poland, France, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark and Italy, the statement released on Tuesday announced.

When analysed by geographic region, the highest increases occurred in the areas of Faro and Olhão (+4.1%), Carvoeiro and Armação de Pêra (+2.3%).

The largest decline was in ​​Vilamoura, Quarteira and Quinta do Lago (-3.1%), in the municipality of Loulé, while Albufeira, the main tourist area of ​​the Algarve, rose by 1.7%.

In cumulative terms, since the beginning of the year, the occupancy rate per room increased by 2.2%, and turnover saw a growth of 9.1%.

Sales volume increased 3.8% during the month, the report by AHETA concluded.
