Grupo Pestana to Invest €3MM in the Pousada Vila Real de Santo António

The Pestana Group will invest three million euros in the construction of the Pousada Vila Real de Santo António in the Algarve. The 57-room hotel will have a restaurant and an event space. Construction is expected to start shortly and the hotel to begin operations within a year, the Vila Real de Santo António Municipal Council announced.

“The Pestana Group, responsible for the management of the national network of pousadas, will invest three million euros and generate 30 jobs. The rehabilitation and conversion works on the buildings located in Praça Marquês de Pombal are expected to last for about a year,” the municipality said in a press release.

The Pousada de Vila Real de Santo António will take over four properties that are of historical interest and which are owned by the municipality and the municipal company Sociedade de Gestão Urbana. The pousada will be dedicated to the history of Vila Real de Santo António, creating a niche for tourism focused on heritage and local culture,” the local authority stated.

“This operation is also part of a recovery of the city’s architectural heritage and will greatly contribute to improves its reputation, promoting the region’s unique offerings in the high-quality cultural tourism market,” the Vila Real de Santo António Municipal Council added.

“The redevelopment of the VRSA Historic Center and its associated properties are factors that have contributed to the Pestana group investing in the county and its assets,” says Conceição Cabrita, the mayor of VRSA.

The Pestana Hotel Group already has 16 hotels in the Algarve, including 13 Pestana Hotels & Resorts and three Pousadas de Portugal (Estoi Palace, in Faro, Sagres Fortress and Tavira Convent). Vila Real de Santo António is the group’s fourth regional Pousada de Portugal and its 17th hotel in the Algarve.
