Alandroal Will Be Home to 5-Star Rural Tourism Venture

17 November 2017

A new rural tourism unit will be “born” in the municipality of Alandroal, in the district of Évora, near the Spanish border, in an investment of around three million euros. It is expected to open towards the end of 2018.

L’and of Alandroal, as the venture is called, is being developed by a group of Portuguese investors at Herdade das Parreiras, an estate with an area of 17 hectares located near the Alqueva Dam, near the villages of Rosario and Mina do Bugalho. The development will have 24 housing units, whose layout will be divided into three distinct areas, with differentiated interior designs.

Investors bought the estate in April 2016, “believing in the revitalisation of the Alentejo border region” and creating an “integrated leisure and agriculture project,” said Lígia Modesto Fraga, one of the project’s developers.

According to Ms Fraga, the project will be “inserted into the unique beauty of the Alentejo mountain region, with a contemporary, but regionally inspired, architecture”, designed by Nuno Gama and António Lages.

L’and of Alandroal will have 24 suites, a restaurant and bar, a wine cellar, outdoor pool and spa, consisting of an indoor pool, jacuzzi, gym, Turkish bath and sauna, among other amenities.

The Monte das Parreiras concept is based on a small number of rooms, destined to a high market segment that seeks relaxing experiences in an exclusive and refined environment.

Lígia Modesto Fraga said that seven hectares of vineyard are being prepared for planting, together with a planned organic almond orchard.

The project’s cornerstone has already been placed, and construction work is expected to begin this month. The establishment should open its doors to the public by December 2018.

The project, which involves a total investment of about three million euros, is supported by Community funds through the regional program Alentejo 2020.
