Accor Group and Turim Hotels Invest in Sesimbra

20 August 2018

The municipality of Sesimbra currently has four four-star hotels, which had more than 177,000 overnight stays in 2017. However, Sesimbra’s hotel industry is set to grow.

The mayor of the city, Francisco Jesus, made the announcement in Turismo de Lisboa’s magazine.

The mayor announced the arrival of two hotel groups to the area, one Portuguese and the other international, Grupo Turim Hotels and the Accor Group. Mayor Jesus said that the Portuguese hotel group, which already owns 15 hotels and has three more under construction, acquired the beachfront Sesimbra Shell, “which was left unfinished after the bankruptcy of the developer.”

The French group Accor is refurbishing Villas de Sesimbra, a “building in an excellent area, that is in good condition, but which was abandoned several years ago.”

Publituris contacted both groups to discover out further details regarding the developments but has yet to receive any responses.

According to the mayor, these projects will “strengthen and upgrade our [hotel] offerings, boosting urban rehabilitation, planning and landscaping.” Mayor Jesus, in the same interview, added that “some major international groups are considering projects on the county’s western coast. The projects would have a strong ecological component and are still under evaluation. They can contribute to putting Sesimbra on the European map for sustainable nature tourism.”
